You’ve seen them. Freestyle BMX riders tackling nasty jumps, sick spins and gravity-defying aerial maneuvers. You’re ready to give it a try and take your BMX experience to the next level but maybe you are a bit intimidated. Totally understandable! Freestyle BMX riding can seem pretty daunting to the beginner, but like any new skill it is definitely possible with practice and determination. Here are some helpful tips to kickstart your Freestyle BMX journey and get you on your way to mastering some awesome tricks and stunts!

Everyone is a beginner at some point! Make sure you have a good handle on the fundamentals like balance, pedal and brake control before moving on to the more advanced stuff. Even the pros practice the BMX basics.

An open, flat area to practice without obstacles or distractions is ideal. It's important to have a safe and controlled environment when you're just getting started.

The right protective gear is always important. Ensure that your helmet, knee and elbow pads, all fit properly and comfortably. Also, make sure to choose a BMX bike that is appropriate for your size and skill level.

There are loads of resources online to help you learn basic BMX tricks and techniques. Videos and step-by-step explainers can be very helpful to a beginner. Also, make friends with experienced riders at your local skatepark or BMX track. You can learn a lot from fellow Freestyle enthusiasts.

It is best to start with smaller tricks and work your way up. Don’t worry about attempting the complex tricks right away. Start with small jumps or tricks and gradually work your way up to more difficult maneuvers as you gain confidence and skill.

Remember to take your time and practice consistently, but also have fun with it! Freestyle BMX is all about creativity and self-expression, so don't be afraid to try new things and make the sport your own.
