Eyes on the Prize
Like all serious BMX racing fans, here at J&R Bicycles we are super excited about what the 2023 USA BMX season has in store. Our very own National Team, competing in the Bike Shop category, has already been taking home some big wins! They competed in the first six race events of the year, winning two days in Las Vegas and all three days in Lexington, VA. Nice work team!
Established as a Bike Shop Team back in the 80s, J&R Bicycles has collected the most team wins in USABMX history with nine National titles. The team last picked up the National Championship Title in 2020 and this year they are feeling really good about their chances of winning it back. Team Manager, Nick Jones, is confident in the skill and determination of his riders. “Every year we are in the running for a National Championship and this year we feel that once again we are the team to beat,” he says. Jones, who took over as Team Manager three years ago, aims to make sure every member of the team puts fun at the forefront of their training. He states that his main goal for the team “is that once they put that J&R jersey on, they will begin an experience that they will never forget.”
Last year the team saw some huge successes including 19 State Championship titles and the Florida team members crushing it in the 2022 Sunshine State BMX Series. The Sunshine State riders repping J&R are the current Florida State Team Champions. 2022 also brought some major personal achievements for J&R riders. Malia Alvarez took home the #5 World ranking in the 9-year old girl category and Cody Young crushed the competition to become the current USA BMX National Cruiser Champion. Congratulations to you both!
Down the Track
We are all excited to see the team ride in Vegas, Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Nashville. Of course, all roads lead to Tulsa. The J&R Bicycles Team is focused on this year’s USA BMX Grand Nationals in November and will be racing and training hard to grab the gold. J&R also has riders racing on Team USA who will be traveling to the World Championship in Glasgow, Scotland. Our team of 18 riders, ranging in age from 6-52 years old, brings all the heart, excitement, drive and determination that makes for the perfect winning recipe. We look forward to sharing in the team’s future successes and are honored to have this group of riders wearing the J&R Bicycles National Team colors.
